|A few hours later...
It's amazing how much better that bowl of real chicken soup makes everything. The ibuprofen and the guaifenesin help a lot, but there's nothing like warm chicken broth sliding your throat. Still feel pretty yucky though.
We made a Cub Foods run, and are now fully provisioned for a siege or a weekend of both of us being sick. Cough syrup- check, makings for chicken soup- check, green & Sleepytime tea- check, tangerines, blueberries, & an avacado- check, check, check. Yeah, and don't forget the Guittard semisweet chocolate chips. Current Mood: lethargic
Going to indulge myself in a bit of whinging here. I feel as if I'm coming down with Michaels' cold- coughing, sore throat, aches in the marrow of my long bones. Yuck.
The good news is that I don't have to work until Monday, the bad news is that my lovely two days off will be taken up by resting and hoping the darned cold doesn't get too awful. Current Mood: sick

Once again, I have not posted in entirely too long. I blame facebook, and all of it's seductive wiles.
Here, however is a cute little trifle- I took a Jane Austen Personality Quiz and came up with Lizzy Bennet.
Take the Jane Austen Character Quiz here!
Those of you who know me try not to laugh too hard. ;-) Current Mood: amused

Syfy channel ran a version of Treasure Island this evening, a good one with Eddie Izzard as Long John Silver. Well worth watching.
So, I wasn't really paying attention after it ended, and left the tube on. I looked up a few minutes ago, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but the Will Ferrell version of Land of the Lost. Gah! Now I remember why I avoid his movies. There is a cruelty to the humor in this movie and something about the timing in his lines that makes me want to claw my eyes out after even a couple of minutes of watching.

So why, oh why, will live journal not let me reply in that certain other community? Gah.

Haven't posted here in quite a while. I have been active over on Facebook (as Erica Stark), which seems better suited to the short posts about morning coffee, what I'm making for dinner, & etc, that I generally make.
I do intend to post here when I feel like maundering on about the obsession du jour. Current Mood: contemplative

|In which I post
Live journal seems to have eaten the post I made a couple of days ago. I mentioned that my crocus' are blooming, and the tulips have stuck their little green leaves out of the ground. Yay! The fimbulwinter has not struck, not this year. About the middle of march is when we Minnesotans usually wonder if it has. As I've tried to explain to my friends in more moderate lands, we don't have freezes here so much as the occasional thaw.
Today is the first day of Minicon for this year, and much fun was had by all. I whiled away the
early afternoon before Con by stopping in at Menards to peruse the current sale items for this week. Scored two of the bodybagged bareroot #1
roses, a Don Juan (fragrant red climber), and an Oregold (a bright yellow). Also got one of the 1 1/2 grade potted roses, a Peace. I have taken to potting up several tender Hybrid Tea roses every year, as my only full sun locations are on the patio or up on the deck. Current Mood: tired

|Still Taking it in
It seems that my son in law has stage 4 kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Ouch.
To be honest I'm not too surprised, given that he didn't quit smoking or lose weight last year after the big blood pressure scare. I had hoped he would beat the odds, and it is possible that he still might...
Kat says he's home from the hospital after a week in the Cardiac wing. Current Mood: indescribable

I've been catching up on the 'Northshield Hall' elist over my break.
The Venerable Gryffins thread is most entertaining. So I'm sitting here, watching the fray, breaking out the popcorn and thinking to myself- "However much an email annoys you, never post a sharp reply before the first cup of coffee." Heh. That poor woman- she's got a fair sized serving of humble pie to get down.

|I have become that grouchy older person-
the one yelling 'stupid kid!' out of the window of my vehicle. Gah!
So there I was, Monday, closing up at the Nursery. Along with everything else that needs covering up or putting away, there's the One Ton dump truck. It's parked out on the street during the day and we pull it into the lot when we close. I hate driving that thing, as, among many other things, the mirrors are not set up for me. If I wanted to adjust them, it would involve moving them manually. If I did this, they would need to be re-adjusted for Randy the next time he made a delivery, so it's always seemed to not be worth the trouble. They probably wouldn't have helped anyway.
Did I mention that the One Ton is chronically in need of work? Oh, yeah, it's a standard transmission, three on the floor, and really fussy in first gear. Stallled out twice in the fifty feet it took to pull in in from the street to the lot.
So, anyway, as I was turning it in the tightest turning radius it would do, (left into the lot and left to pull in front of the annual benches) this kid somewhere in the ten-twelve-year-old range, on a bicycle, suddenly appears in my drivers' side mirror. He had cut through the nursery lot from the south gate, passed behind the truck so close I couldn't see him in my mirrors, and out through the west gate, thus avoiding the possibility of having to watch out for cars at the corner. I guess he was a little unclear on this whole 'safety' concept. If I had decided to let the truck roll backwards a little before restarting it, it might well have hit him.
Stupid kid. One day he will realize he is not invulnerable, I just don't want it to be on my watch. Nor, all gallows humor about the Darwin awards, or washing blood off the truck aside, do I want to have to be the one to tell his mother that I just couldn't have seen him. Current Mood: grumpy
